The program provides advanced study, training, and experience in the study of clinical applications of yoga therapy. The graduate is able to demonstrate a familiarity of the yoga philosophies of health and healing and demonstrate proficiency in ethics, techniques, methodologies, and practical applications as they apply to the clinical applications of yoga therapy. This includes short-and long-term benefits that embrace a wellness component serving those who wish to incorporate yoga therapy into their ongoing self-care for healing and health management systems as an adaptive modality among existing allopathic environments. The program emphasizes methodologies that encourage yoga therapy for research and funding.

IIYT graduates receive over 1000 hours of didactic education and clinical experience in the applications of yoga therapy in health care environments through a rigorous academically based curriculum and extensive mentored clinical externship within a teaching hospital. A faculty made up of the Director of the program, MDs, PhDs, and Certified Yoga Therapists (CIAYT) support the academic base of the program. Mentored yoga therapy clinical externship within the hospital includes yoga therapy encounters with both inpatient and outpatient populations.

Supervised Clinical Extern activities include one-on-one out-patient physician referred, small group/ symptom specific yoga therapy settings and in-patient/bedside yoga therapy sessions. In addition, IIYT Clinical Externs receive training in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).  All mentored yoga therapy clinical encounters and patient documentation are HIPAA/COVID compliant.
